My Biggest Remodeling Regret: Double Bathroom Sinks

When I renovated my bathroom a few years ago, I made a decision that I've regretted ever since: I installed double bathroom sinks. At the time, it seemed like a great idea. I thought it would be convenient to have two sinks, especially during those busy mornings when my husband and I are both getting ready for work. I also thought it would look more luxurious and spacious.

However, after living with double sinks for a while, I've realized that they're more trouble than they're worth. Here are a few of the reasons why I regret my decision:

1. They're not as convenient as I thought they would be.

In reality, having two sinks doesn't really save us any time. We still have to wait for each other to finish using the sink before we can use it ourselves. And because the sinks are side-by-side, it's often difficult to use both sinks at the same time without bumping into each other. This morning I ended up putting my mascara on in the kitchen.

2. They take up too much space.

Double sinks take up a lot of counter space, which can make the bathroom feel cramped. And because I didn't have enough room to center the sinks, one of the sinks is right up against the bathtub which makes it even more difficult to maneuver around it all.

3. They're more difficult to clean.

With two sinks, there's twice as much surface area to clean. And because the sinks are often used at the same time, they can get dirty quickly. I find myself constantly wiping down the sinks and faucets to keep them looking clean.

4. They're more expensive to install and maintain.

Double sinks cost more to install than single sinks. And because they have more plumbing, they're more likely to leak or develop other problems. I've already had to call a plumber twice to fix leaks in my double sinks.

5. They're not as aesthetically pleasing as I thought they would be.

I thought double sinks would make my bathroom look more luxurious and spacious. However, I've found that they actually make my bathroom look more cluttered and cramped. And because the sinks are side-by-side, they create a visual barrier that makes the bathroom feel smaller.

If I could go back, I would definitely choose a single sink for my bathroom. Single sinks are more convenient, take up less space, are easier to clean, are less expensive to install and maintain, and are more aesthetically pleasing. I know that double sinks are popular, but I think they're overrated. If you're thinking about installing double sinks in your bathroom, I urge you to reconsider.
