How To Remove Sewer Smell In Bathroom

The bathroom is a place where we go to clean ourselves and relax. However, sometimes, a bad smell can ruin the experience. If you're dealing with a sewer smell in your bathroom, there are a few things you can do to eliminate it.

1. Check the P-trap

3. Check the Toilet Wax Ring

The toilet wax ring is a seal that is located between the toilet and the drain flange. It is designed to prevent sewer gases from escaping around the base of the toilet. Over time, the wax ring can deteriorate and break down, which can allow sewer gases to escape.

To check the toilet wax ring, simply remove the toilet from the drain flange. If the wax ring is damaged or broken, replace it with a new one. Be sure to clean the toilet and the drain flange before installing the new wax ring.

4. Clean the Bathroom Fan

The bathroom fan is designed to remove moisture and odors from the bathroom. If the fan is not working properly, it can cause sewer gases to build up in the bathroom.

To clean the bathroom fan, simply remove the cover and wipe down the blades with a damp cloth. Be sure to also clean the fan motor and housing. Replace the cover and test the fan by turning it on. If the fan is not working properly, it may need to be replaced.

5. Use a Commercial Drain Cleaner

If the above methods do not work, you may need to use a commercial drain cleaner to remove the sewer smell. Drain cleaners are designed to dissolve hair, soap scum, and other debris that can clog drains and cause sewer gases to escape.

When using a drain cleaner, be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Drain cleaners can be harmful if they are not used properly.

6. Call a Plumber

If you have tried all of the above methods and the sewer smell persists, you may need to call a plumber. A plumber can inspect your plumbing system and identify the source of the smell. They can then repair or replace the necessary components to eliminate the smell.
