How To Remove Bathroom Faucet Cartridge

A bathroom faucet cartridge is a small, removable part that controls the flow of water from the faucet. It is typically made of plastic or metal and contains a series of seals and washers that prevent water from leaking. Over time, the cartridge can become worn or damaged, causing the faucet to leak or drip. If you notice that your bathroom faucet is leaking, it is important to replace the cartridge as soon as possible to prevent further damage. Replacing a bathroom faucet cartridge is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few minutes with the right tools.

Tools You Will Need:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Adjustable wrench
  • New faucet cartridge

Steps:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet. There will be two valves under the sink, one for hot water and one for cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water supply.
  2. Open the faucet to release any remaining water pressure. This will help to prevent water from leaking out when you remove the cartridge.
  3. Locate the set screw that holds the cartridge in place. It is typically located on the top of the faucet handle or on the side of the faucet body. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the set screw.
  4. Pull the cartridge straight up to remove it from the faucet body. If the cartridge is stuck, you can use a flat head screwdriver to gently pry it loose.
  5. Inspect the cartridge for any signs of wear or damage. If the cartridge is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
  6. Insert the new cartridge into the faucet body. Make sure that the cartridge is properly aligned before inserting it all the way.
  7. Tighten the set screw to secure the cartridge in place. Do not overtighten the set screw, as this can damage the cartridge.
  8. Turn on the water supply to the faucet and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the set screw a little bit more.

Tips:

  • If you are not sure how to replace the cartridge, it is best to consult with a professional plumber.
  • When purchasing a new cartridge, be sure to choose one that is the same size and type as the old cartridge.
  • If the faucet is still leaking after you have replaced the cartridge, there may be another problem with the faucet. In this case, you will need to call a plumber for assistance.
