How To Lay A Bathroom Subfloor

A subfloor is a layer of material that is installed beneath the finished flooring in a room. It provides support for the flooring and helps to level out any unevenness in the substructure. In a bathroom, a subfloor is also important for providing a moisture barrier to protect the flooring from water damage.

There are a few different types of subfloors that can be used in a bathroom, but the most common type is a plywood subfloor. Plywood is a strong and durable material that is resistant to moisture. It is also relatively easy to install.

To lay a plywood subfloor in a bathroom, you will need the following materials:

  • Plywood (3/4-inch thick)
  • Wood screws
  • Construction adhesive
  • Moisture barrier
  • Tape
  • Level
  • Circular saw
  • Drill
  • Hammer

Once you have gathered your materials, you can follow these steps to lay the subfloor:

  1. Prepare the substructure. The first step is to prepare the substructure for the subfloor. This may involve leveling out any unevenness and repairing any damaged areas.
  2. Install the moisture barrier. Next, you will need to install a moisture barrier over the substructure. This will help to protect the subfloor from water damage.
  3. Cut the plywood. Cut the plywood to the desired size using a circular saw.
  4. Apply construction adhesive. Apply a bead of construction adhesive to the substructure, and then place the plywood over the adhesive.
  5. Secure the plywood. Secure the plywood to the substructure using wood screws. Make sure to countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the plywood.
  6. Level the subfloor. Use a level to check the subfloor for any unevenness. If there are any uneven areas, you can shim the subfloor to level it out.

Once you have laid the subfloor, you can begin installing the finished flooring.
