How Do You Fix A Leaky Moen Bathroom Faucet?

Moen bathroom faucets are known for their durability and reliability, but even the best faucets can develop leaks over time. If you're dealing with a leaky Moen bathroom faucet, don't despair – it's a relatively easy fix that you can do yourself with a few simple tools.

The most common cause of a leaky Moen bathroom faucet is a worn-out washer. Washers are small, rubber discs that create a seal between the faucet stem and the faucet body. Over time, washers can become worn or damaged, which can cause water to leak from the faucet.

To fix a leaky Moen bathroom faucet, you'll need the following tools:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Adjustable wrench
  • New washer

Once you have your tools, follow these steps to fix the leak:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet. There should be two shut-off valves under the sink, one for hot water and one for cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water.
  2. Open the faucet to release any remaining water in the lines.
  3. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the handle from the faucet. There will be a small screw on the top of the handle. Remove the screw and pull the handle straight up to remove it.
  4. Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the packing nut. The packing nut is located at the base of the faucet stem. Turn the packing nut counterclockwise to loosen it.
  5. Pull the faucet stem straight up out of the faucet body. The washer will be located on the bottom of the faucet stem.
  6. Remove the old washer and replace it with a new one. Make sure that the new washer is the same size and shape as the old one.
  7. Insert the faucet stem back into the faucet body. Make sure that the washer is seated properly on the faucet seat.
  8. Tighten the packing nut by turning it clockwise. Do not overtighten the packing nut, as this could damage the faucet.
  9. Reinstall the handle on the faucet. Make sure that the handle is properly aligned and tightened.
  10. Turn on the water supply to the faucet and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, then you have successfully fixed the leaky faucet.

If you are still having problems with a leaky Moen bathroom faucet, then you may need to call a plumber. However, in most cases, you can fix the leak yourself with a few simple tools.
