Remove Drain From Bathroom Sink

Bathroom sinks are typically equipped with a pop-up drain stopper that can be easily removed for cleaning or repairs. Removing the drain is a simple task that can be completed in a few minutes using a few basic tools.

Tools You'll Need:

Adjustable wrench or pliers
Screwdriver
Putty knife (optional)

Instructions:

Turn off the water supply to the sink. There should be two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to close them.
Open the faucet to release any remaining water in the line. This will help prevent water from spilling out when you remove the drain.
Loosen the locknut on the underside of the sink. The locknut is typically located directly below the drain hole. Use an adjustable wrench or pliers to loosen the nut by turning it counterclockwise.
Remove the pop-up drain stopper. Once the locknut is loose, you can remove the pop-up drain stopper by pulling it straight up.
Clean the drain assembly. If the drain is clogged, you can clean it by removing any debris or buildup. You can use a putty knife to gently scrape away any gunk or hair.
Reinstall the pop-up drain stopper. To reinstall the drain stopper, simply insert it into the drain hole and tighten the locknut by turning it clockwise.
Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. Once the drain is reinstalled, turn on the water supply and check for any leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the locknut further.

Tips:

If the locknut is difficult to loosen, you can try using a penetrating oil to lubricate the threads.
If the pop-up drain stopper is stuck, you can try using a pair of pliers to gently pry it loose.
