Delta Bathroom Faucet Drip Repair
A dripping faucet is not only annoying, but it can also waste a significant amount of water. If you have a Delta bathroom faucet that is dripping, there are a few things you can do to try and fix it yourself. In this article, we will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to repair a dripping Delta bathroom faucet.
Tools and Materials You Will Need
Before you begin, you will need to gather the following tools and materials:- Adjustable wrench
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
- Replacement cartridge (if necessary)
- Plumber's putty
- Rags
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet. There should be two shut-off valves under the sink, one for hot water and one for cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water. 2. Open the faucet to release any remaining water from the lines. 3. Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the packing nut. The packing nut is located where the faucet handle meets the base of the faucet. Turn the packing nut counterclockwise to loosen it. 4. Remove the handle. Once the packing nut is loose, you should be able to pull the handle straight up to remove it. 5. Inspect the cartridge. The cartridge is the part of the faucet that controls the flow of water. Remove the cartridge by turning it counterclockwise. Inspect the cartridge for any damage or wear. If the cartridge is damaged, you will need to replace it. 6. Apply plumber's putty to the new cartridge. Apply a thin layer of plumber's putty to the threads of the new cartridge. This will help to create a watertight seal. 7. Install the new cartridge. Insert the new cartridge into the faucet body and turn it clockwise to tighten it. 8. Reattach the handle. Slide the handle back onto the faucet body and tighten the packing nut. 9. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. Once the faucet is reassembled, turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the packing nut until the leak stops.Tips
- If you are not comfortable repairing the faucet yourself, you can call a plumber for assistance.
- Delta faucets are covered by a lifetime warranty. If your faucet is leaking and is still under warranty, you may be able to get it repaired or replaced for free.
- To prevent your faucet from dripping in the future, make sure to lubricate the cartridge regularly. You can use a silicone-based lubricant to do this.
