Bathroom Sink Faucet Drip Repair

A dripping bathroom sink faucet is a common plumbing problem that can be easily fixed with a few simple tools and materials. In most cases, the drip is caused by a worn-out washer or O-ring. Replacing these parts is a relatively simple task that can be completed in about 30 minutes.

Tools and Materials You Will Need:

Adjustable wrench
Phillips screwdriver
New washer or O-ring
Petroleum jelly

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet. There should be two shut-off valves located under the sink. Turn both valves clockwise to close them.

2. Open the faucet to release any remaining water. This will help to prevent water from leaking out when you remove the faucet handle.

3. Remove the faucet handle. Most faucet handles are held in place by a single screw. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw and then pull the handle straight up to remove it.

4. Remove the packing nut. The packing nut is located just below the faucet handle. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the packing nut and then remove it by hand.

5. Remove the stem assembly. The stem assembly is the part of the faucet that contains the washer or O-ring. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the stem assembly and then pull it straight out of the faucet body.

6. Replace the washer or O-ring. The washer or O-ring is located at the bottom of the stem assembly. Use a small screwdriver or your fingernail to remove the old washer or O-ring and then replace it with a new one.

7. Apply petroleum jelly to the new washer or O-ring. Petroleum jelly will help to lubricate the washer or O-ring and prevent it from leaking.

8. Reassemble the faucet. Reassemble the faucet in the reverse order of how you disassembled it. Be sure to tighten all of the parts securely.

9. Turn on the water supply to the faucet and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, your faucet repair is complete.
