Moen Bathroom Faucet Cartridge Removal

Moen bathroom faucets are known for their durability and style, but even the best faucets can develop problems over time. One common issue is a leaky cartridge. A cartridge is a small, cylindrical device that controls the flow of water in the faucet. If the cartridge becomes worn or damaged, it can cause the faucet to leak.

Replacing a Moen bathroom faucet cartridge is a relatively simple task that can be completed in about 30 minutes. Here are the steps on how to do it:

1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet.

There are usually two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water supply.

2. Remove the faucet handle.

Most Moen bathroom faucets have a handle that is held in place by a screw. Locate the screw and remove it with a screwdriver. Once the screw is removed, the handle should come off easily.

3. Remove the cartridge retainer nut.

The cartridge retainer nut is located behind the handle. Use a wrench to loosen the nut and remove it. Once the nut is removed, the cartridge will be free.

4. Pull out the cartridge.

Grip the cartridge firmly and pull it straight out of the faucet body. Be careful not to damage the cartridge or the faucet body.

5. Inspect the cartridge.

Once the cartridge is removed, inspect it for any signs of wear or damage. If the cartridge is damaged, it will need to be replaced.

6. Install the new cartridge.

If the cartridge is damaged, it will need to be replaced with a new one. To install the new cartridge, simply insert it into the faucet body and tighten the cartridge retainer nut. Be sure to tighten the nut securely, but do not overtighten it.

7. Reinstall the faucet handle.

Once the cartridge is installed, reinstall the faucet handle. To do this, simply insert the handle into the faucet body and tighten the screw. Be sure to tighten the screw securely, but do not overtighten it.

8. Turn on the water supply to the faucet.

Once the faucet handle is reinstalled, turn on the water supply to the faucet. Check for any leaks. If there are no leaks, the cartridge replacement was successful.

Replacing a Moen bathroom faucet cartridge is a relatively simple task that can be completed in about 30 minutes. By following these steps, you can easily fix a leaky faucet and restore it to working order.
