Bathroom Faucet Leaks At Handle

A leaky faucet is a common problem that can waste water and increase your water bill. If your bathroom faucet is leaking at the handle, there are a few things you can do to fix it yourself. Follow these steps to stop the leak and save money on your water bill.

1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet. There should be two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water supply.

2. Remove the handle. Most faucet handles are held in place by a screw. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw and then pull the handle straight up to remove it.

3. Inspect the O-rings. O-rings are small, rubber washers that seal the connection between the handle and the faucet body. Over time, O-rings can wear out and cause leaks. Inspect the O-rings for any signs of damage, such as cracks or tears.

4. Replace the O-rings. If the O-rings are damaged, you will need to replace them. You can purchase new O-rings at most hardware stores. To replace the O-rings, simply remove the old O-rings and then install the new O-rings in their place.

5. Reinstall the handle. Once you have replaced the O-rings, you can reinstall the handle. To reinstall the handle, simply insert the handle into the faucet body and then tighten the screw.

6. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. Once you have reinstalled the handle, turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, you may need to tighten the screw on the handle or replace the O-rings again.

Tips for preventing faucet leaks:

  • Don't overtighten the handle screw. Overtightening the screw can damage the O-rings and cause leaks.
  • Replace the O-rings regularly. O-rings should be replaced every few years to prevent leaks.
  • If you have a leaky faucet, don't ignore it. A leaky faucet can waste water and increase your water bill.
